Wilderness First Aid

Wilderness First Aid

Join wilderness medicine expert, Susan Purvis for a 2-day intensive backcountry medical course for outdoor recreationalists or wilderness trip leaders who venture into moderately remote and challenging environments. Be prepared for emergency situations that involve prolonged patient care, severe environments and improvised equipment. Learn what to do in a medical emergency when help is miles away and calling 911 isn’t an option. Class will be both indoors and outside. Materials, including textbook, waterproof field guide and certifications are included in the price of the course. Wilderness first aid differs significantly from standard Red Cross courses and other programs that are oriented toward the urban environment. Students who successfully complete this course will receive a Wilderness Medical Associates WFA certification card and Anaphylaxis and Adult CPR certification cards valid for three years. Susan Purvis is a certified Wilderness Emergency Medical Technician, Lead Instructor with Wilderness Medical Associates, and owner of Crested Butte Outdoors.
