a chainsaw, compare different size classes, battery vs. gasoline, and how to keep it running
in good condition.
Notes:
Students will need leather boots or shoes, and long pants.
Equipment will be provided; but you may bring your own chainsaw.

FVCC-Kalispell, MTNicholas (Nick) Merriman
Nick Merriman has operated a chainsaw professionally for over 25 years. During his 20 years of fire service he was a hazard tree faller, certifier and saw instructor. He currently a International Society of Arboriculture certified arborist is a crew foreman for Trees for Life MT Inc. He has taught the following courses: NWCG S-212, DNRC Advanced Faller, FVCC Chainsaw/Crosscut Saw, several basic saw classes for the Montana Conservation Corps, as well as certifying new and experienced fallers. He has trained between 500-1000 students in all levels of chainsaw operation, as well as taught multiple safety, fire and arborist specific continuing educational classes. Additional training/experience/awards: M-410 Facilitative Instructor, a 40 hour adult education course, and Tree Care Industry Association’s Certified Tree Safety Professional.
